Not until an empty tank landed me in Putnam, Texas (pop 340) at "The Fillin' Station" did I realize that the rest of the United States despises the state of Oregon and our inability to pump our own gas.
You see I was driving a van filled with 8 people from all corners of the U.S. and had to ask for some help. To be honest, I've never filled my own gas tank. I've seen it done a thousand times, but didn't want to inadvertently break the pump or the van. My flaw brought some rather harsh criticism upon myself and the great state I call home.
They asked questions that were easy to answer, but for some reason they were still miffed. Do you tip? No. How do they know what to give you? You tell them.
I would like to hope that said criticism was more due to a lack of understanding rather than prejudice, but IÂm just not sure.
